Population distribution is uneven in Nepal. Population are not equally distributed. Some are densely populated whereas some are sparsely populated. There are three geographical regions in Nepal. Mountain, hill and Terai.

Mountain region is a cold region and there are only few cultivable lands. All the land are not arable. There is lack of many facilities. There is no good facility of transportation and communication as well. It seems that due to unavailability of various facilities, this region is sparsely populated. Human wants to live in those places where the facilities are available. All the people want to make their life luxurious. So, they don't like to stay in rural areas and they migrate towards the urban areas. We can say that migration also cause unequal distribution of population.

Hilly region is little bit developed and facilitate than mountain region. The land is little bit fertile in comparison to mountain region. The road ways and airways facilities are available. The Capital city of Nepal also lies in this region. Similarly many big industries, factories, trade concerns, administrative bodies etc. are also situated in this region.

Among these geographical regions, Terai is the most developed region. This region is also called granary of Nepal as the land is more fertile. There is availability of almost all facilities. Terai is the region having more facilities in comparison to other regions. So, people from hill and mountain migrate towards Terai to enjoy the facilities or to make their lives easier. The population is densely populated in this region.

Due to this, the population is not equally distributed in all parts of the country.
